Sustainable materials in textiles

Nachhaltige Materialien bei Textilien
Sustainable materials from which our shirts are made. We provide an overview of organic fabrics in clothing production.

Green Shirts are made from sustainable materials such as organic cotton, recycled PET bottles, wood viscose, and bamboo fibers. But what exactly makes these materials sustainable and fair? What distinguishes organic cotton from conventional cotton? And how is a T-shirt made? from PET bottles?

Sustainable fashion stands for the use of sustainable materials and fair working conditions. With so-called green fashion, part of the purchase price is invested in the materials used and their processing. Sustainable processing is crucial for ensuring fair standards are met. Conventional cotton uses six kilos of chemicals per kilo during cultivation alone. These harmful chemicals are released through perspiration and contaminate the skin. Fortunately, however, there are already numerous sustainable materials whose production does not harm our environment or our skin, making them safe to wear.

Fabrics at a glance:

organic cotton

In organic cotton production, the seeds themselves are from controlled organic cultivation. Further criteria for certified organic cotton include the use of natural fertilizers and the preservation of healthy soils. In the production of organic cotton It's primarily about taking responsibility for the environment. The most important attribute of organic cotton is the absence of chemical pesticides, insecticides, and chemical fertilizers. By purchasing a single T-shirt made from organic cotton, you save approximately seven square meters of cultivated land from pesticides and artificial fertilizers.

Organic cotton is extremely easy to process and has a long lifespan. It is particularly skin-friendly, soft, and breathable. Organic cotton garments feel like a second skin.

Recycled PET bottles

Recycling is used to reuse certain materials from a product. However, since the majority of textiles used are made of a mix of materials, recycling is often not easy. Purity is particularly important for the recycling of the material. PET bottles, which are made of pure polyester, prove to be the ideal material for this purpose. The bottle is ground and melted to produce textile fibers, from which the item of clothing Recycled PET is used in the textile industry, for example, for backpacks and outdoor clothing such as fleece sweaters. Innovative and resource-saving – PET is proving to be a modern material for the future.

Tencel

Tencel is made from cellulose and is a viscose product. While some chemicals are added during the production of regular viscose, Tencel is manufactured using a non-toxic, organic solvent. This solvent can be reused after production, making it particularly sustainable and environmentally friendly. A state-of-the-art process with a 99.7% closed production cycle is used to produce Tencel. This process was even awarded the European Environment Prize by the EU. Unlike other fibers, the production of Tencel requires comparatively little water, thus conserving resources. Tencel is compostable and therefore biodegradable, enabling us to create wearable, sustainable fashion to produce.
